BIOGRAPHY
No matter what varieties of story telling, chronological or otherwise, and the exploration of culture, and the perplexity between the hero as formal protagonist and the hero as archetype. Trejo stands in the midst of all this firing inexorable verbal repertoires aimed at those who will listen, a rhymester or lyricist is only as good as his lexis and expressions. With the UK serving up some of the hottest product in the R&B/rap game, Trejo stands as one of the most exhilarating merchants of cool to emerge in years. Thanks to underground testimonials like Murder. Trejo’s street swagger and genuine style has quickly made supporters out of some of the biggest players in the game in the UK and beyond. Trejo has created nothing short of a movement, an army of people. Now the world will get to find out what insiders have been buzzing about when his Streetfame debut: 'Longtime Coming' drops towards the end of the year in Africa and world wide early 2007.
Like many hustlers on the mic, rapping wasn’t in Trejo’s original plan. As an academic and CEO of Streetfame Entertainment he was happy to produce, write songs and write film scripts and stay in the background.
“I had a lot of artists I was working with, but in the end I decided to do it myself from the front line, like the true leader that I am. Ain’t nobody gonna go as hard as me, I see the big picture, I have a way with words and I know how to do business.” He says. Most people that have been around him will testify that Trejo has an aura, a real presence; people feel him everywhere he goes.
Having lost a lot of things in life: Family, friends and business associates. Trejo has a sense of urgency about his music and life. So he made the studio his home for a while and came out with sixty five tracks completed, with a few in the pipeline waiting for collaborations.
“Basically I am a real man and I am comfortable with the man that I am, I am a man's man you know, so I can relate more to my fans and comrades. My music is for everyday listing I do it for those that are feeling pain, are lost in this cold world; single mothers, those languishing in jail, all my dead peoples in the cemeteries buried. And those kids lost with no direction. I am trying to restore a sense of morality into this dirty confused game as far as the streets go”.
What sets Trejo’s music apart from his contemporaries is his ability to bring colour and spark to a story that’s been recited so many times. He is a true digital artist who doesn’t need 16 bars to paint a vibrant picture in your head. When he snaps off a stanza the image is effortless enough for everyone to feel and comprehend instantly.
“Me and my Mother never had much, Pain and misery for us came in a bunch, Nothing but bread with no butter in my packed lunch, And all through my life, struggling to get by, A heart attack robbed my mother of her young life” he rattles off on one of the albums stand out tracks, 'Somebody Help Me'. Trejo’s untouchable lyrics have made everyone stand up and take notice. But it’s the individuals grinding on the streets from day to day, that will get the most out of Trejo’s librettos.
“I’m just real to myself. Just believing in what I can do. If you have goals it gives a brother something to be motivated about.” He says. “we stood on the same ground once upon a time me and my peers, my songs are to reinvigorate them, so they can stand up on they feet again and learn to walk again, I know most of my people are wounded out here on these cold mean streets, so I am letting you see the picture so you can get something out of it. That’s the Valley of Tears.”
On his debut single 'Longtime Coming' we hear Trejo spiting some real deep unrequited love lyrics, as you listen to it he paints pictures for you.
The guest list is a who is who of the up coming and talented artist’s such as Bashiman, Blud Kunnektion, Nefertiti, C-Ffetti and Sarah. “I just want to bring back that sense of morality back to the streets,” he concludes. “Most people listen to artists, so I just want to talk to them for a while you know.” He goes on. “I want to talk to you, you, yes you with my CD in your radio”
